Generations of Brigham Young University students have benefitted from the generous support of Church and private individuals. With that support they have received a first-rate education that has helped them "go forth to serve." That service includes providing for education of future generations.
Students selected to receive BYU Alumni and Chapter Replenishment Grants will not only receive financial aid for themselves but also will have an opportunity to assist those who follow.
The Perpetual Emigration Fund inspired the grants. The fund was a gospel-based plan to bring the Saints to the Rocky Mountains. In the 1850s many new European converts lacked the financial means to obey the commandment to gather as Saints. The fund enabled tens of thousands of members to do so, by providing for transportation from Europe to America. In turn, they were asked to repay the funds so other Saints could follow.
Inspired by this model, the Alumni and Chapter Replenishment Grants consider not only need and eligibility in its applicants but also a moral commitment to repay the amount of the grant so that future students can receive and continue such financial assistance.
Guidelines
1. The BYU Alumni Association and Chapters direct Replenishment Grants to needful students whose total costs of education may not be met through other financial aid programs. These may be students who are working to put themselves through school and, by so doing, disqualify themselves for grants or loans.
2. Grants will be awarded annually and vary in amounts up to full tuition. Grant recipients may be invited to participate in alumni activities. They will also be asked to replenish the grant fund once they are financially able.
3. Serious candidates must meet the following qualifications to be considered:
- Earn a minimum 3.0 GPA from all institutions attended by the end of Winter Semester
- Demonstrate financial need. Need will be established from the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and other information provided by the applicant on this application.
- Preferred junior and senior applicants.
4. Recipients will be eligible to apply each year for another grant under the same criteria.
